What is in this collection

Every page is built from hearts, leaves and simple lettering, with no cartoon characters. You will find heart mandalas, the words Love, Be Mine and XOXO inside a large double heart, an open envelope with a love card, a garland of hearts, a wreath of leaves and hearts, two stained glass windows with a heart made of radial panes, and bouquets of flowers whose petals are small hearts.

  • Easy: bold outlines, large hearts and wide open zones.
  • Medium: patterned bands, lettering with simple fills and fuller scenes.
  • Detailed: fine patterns and many small panes for sharp pencils.

Paper and tools

Plain printer paper works for colored pencils. For markers, print on heavier paper, around 32 lb or 120 gsm, so the ink does not bleed. If you want to give a page as a card, print it on light card stock and color with pencils or fine markers.

Palette ideas

Red, pink and cream is the classic choice. For a softer page, try blush, dusty rose, sage and warm gray. The stained glass windows look rich in jewel tones such as ruby, amber and deep teal.

A slow-coloring tip

Start a page in early February and color a few zones each evening. By the fourteenth it is done, and the slow pace makes it feel like a small daily ritual.
