How to get the glass look
Real stained glass glows because each pane is one clear, saturated color. Use bright markers or pencils pressed hard, and avoid repeating the same color in two panes that touch. Leave the lead lines black. For a softer look, color each pane lighter at its center.
Palette ideas
- Cathedral: deep blue, ruby red, gold and emerald.
- Garden window: sage, lavender, butter yellow and sky blue.
- Sunset: one family of warm colors from yellow to deep red, darker toward the top.
Window cling effect
Color a page with markers, cut out the window and tape it to a sunny window. A drop of baby oil rubbed on the back with a cotton pad makes regular paper semi translucent, so light shines through the colors. Try it on a test print first.
