What makes these pages difficult

Every page in this collection is drawn at our Detailed level: thin lines and small zones that take hours to fill. There are mandalas with 16 to 24 fold symmetry, zen doodle panels where each cell holds a different tangle pattern, a feather, a leaf, a heart and a circle split into patterned sections, and geometric tilings of stars, hexagons and triangles.

Tools that work best

  • Sharp colored pencils, sharpened often. A hard pencil keeps a fine point longer.
  • Fine-tip markers or gel pens with a 0.4 mm tip or smaller.
  • A white gel pen to add small highlights at the end.

How to keep it relaxing

Pick a small palette of four or five colors before you start. Work on one section at a time and stop at a natural edge, such as the end of a ring or a cell. Some areas can stay white: on busy pages, white space helps the colored parts stand out.

Printing

Print at 100% so the smallest shapes keep their size. Smooth paper, such as 24 lb or 90 g/m², takes pencil layers well. If you print at home, use the best quality setting so fine lines stay crisp.
