What is in this collection

Classic Christmas shapes are filled with tangle patterns: a stocking with heel and toe patches, a bell, a five-point star split into facets, a gift box, a leaf wreath, a holly sprig, three candles, a gingerbread house front and a pair of striped hooks. Some pages show one large shape. Two sampler pages place four or six shapes in separate frames.

  • Easy: one large shape with wide zones.
  • Medium: more bands and a four-shape sampler.
  • Detailed: fine patterns and a six-shape sampler.

Paper and tools

Plain printer paper is fine for colored pencils. Use heavier paper, around 32 lb or 120 gsm, for markers. The sampler frames can be cut apart and used as small cards or gift tags.

Palette ideas

Pick two main colors, such as red and green, and add a neutral like cream or light gray for the plain zones. Inside a patterned zone, color the small shapes and leave the background white, or do the reverse for a bolder look.

A slow-coloring tip

Choose one pattern on the page, such as all the scales or all the stars, and color only that pattern first. Repeating one motif is calming and keeps the colors consistent.
